Once ready for the day, Jason and I decided to walk the streets of Seattle and find brunch. Seattle is typically known for it's dreary weather, but today was lovely. It was sunny, but cool with a light breeze. It couldn't have been better weather. As we walked, we stumbled across Caffe Zingaro. We popped in for some tea and a bite to eat. It was a charming little shop filled with pastries, sandwiches, and a large selection of coffee and teas. We ordered and found a nice, quiet table in the corner overlooking the street. Out the window we saw a somewhat frustrated woman trying to organize a large group of elementary school children. We people watched, drank our tea, and ate our warm, delicious brunch.
After eating, we walked around Queen Anne for a while. We stumbled across a group of men sitting on the sidewalk laughing to themselves. As we walked past, we noticed they were talking about a nearby bird sitting on a streetlight. The bird was quietly staring at them as though they were old friends. One of the guys sitting on the curb looked at us and said, "If you talk to the birds, they talk back!" They cackled and roared with laughter as the bird made a chirping sound shortly after. Although humorous, I'm not sure it was as hilarious as they found it to be.
After walking a while, we returned to our room to regroup and plan the rest of our day. We settled on going to the Chihuly Garden and Glass Museum. Jason and I have been aware of his work for a long time and even saw some of it at the Botanical Gardens in Arizona and at Maker's Mark in Kentucky. I fell in love with his work as an elementary school kid when watching a documentary about him in class. We were very excited. Before leaving, Jason got a call from his mom and caught up with her for a little bit. We then got directions and made our way to the Museum. Below are pictures:
This is essentially what we saw at Maker's Mark:
Makes me thing of a boss on Zelda for some reason:
This was my favorite part of the museum, the flowers. The entire glass room had a large selection of vibrant glass flowers danging from the ceiling. It was breathtakingly beautiful:
I can't describe how beautiful the museum was. The pictures don't do justice to how vibrant and grand it was. Although I didn't get pictures, there was an outside part to the museum as well. As we walked down the path in the outside gardens, large colorful glass sculptures emerged from the greenery. The sun glistened off the tall purple and blue glass poles that appeared to be growing from the ground. We came upon large gray and black glass bubbles that appeared to be erupting from the earth. I told Jason they reminded me of bubbling tar. He agreed. It was almost as though you were walking in a Dr. Seuss book, filled with nonsense and beauty. I loved it. As we neared the exit, we came across glass flowers the size of the building. They were a vivid orange and made you feel like a small ant crawling on the ground. It was just lovely!
Jason and I decided to take a seat by a nearby map of the park to rest. After a while, we realized the Seattle Space needle was not far away at all, so we headed to the entrance. It was very crowded and the lines were extremely long. We also had difficulty figuring out how to get to the top, as there was an elevator and a large line that wrapped around the building outside. We weren't sure where the line started though, which was the problem. We decided we weren't up to waiting in such a long line anyway, so we headed back to the hotel.
As we walked back to the hotel, we stumbled across this gigantic water fountain in the park:
We heard music coming from a nearby group of people sitting on the grass, enjoying the lovely weather. The park looks like a perfect spot for relaxing. After spending a little bit of time here, we then finished our walk to the hotel. I was very turned around and had difficulty knowing where we should go. Jason, however, has an excellent memory and sense of direction, so he was able to get us back fairly easily.
Once back at the hotel, we relaxed for a while. I got into one of my giggly, goofy moods which caused both Jason and I to laugh for quite a long time. We started making funny faces at each other, as we are typically known to do. I decided to capture the happy, giggling us with a picture:
After relaxing, we decided we should grab some dinner. We found a restaurant nearby called Racha Thai & Asian Kitchen. It was delicious! We both like trying BBQ every place we go. Although we couldn't find a BBQ place, we did find a dish here that had it as an appetizer:
After dinner, we walked back to the hotel and called it a night.
